Sponsoring Organizations
International Labour Organization
The ILO was founded in 1919, in the wake of a destructive war, to pursue a vision based on the premise that universal, lasting peace can be established only if it is based upon decent treatment of working people. The ILO became the first specialized agency of the UN in 1946. The ILO is the only 'tripartite' United Nations agency in that it brings together representatives of governments, employers and workers to jointly shape policies and programmes. This unique arrangement gives the ILO an edge in incorporating 'real world' knowledge about employment and work. The International Labour Organization (ILO) is devoted to advancing opportunities for women and men to obtain decent and productive work in conditions of freedom, equity, security and human dignity. Its main aims are to promote rights at work, encourage decent employment opportunities, enhance social protection and strengthen dialogue in handling work-related issues. In promoting social justice and internationally recognized human and labour rights, the organization continues to pursue its founding mission that labour peace is essential to prosperity. Today, the ILO helps advance the creation of decent jobs and the kinds of economic and working conditions that give working people and business people a stake in lasting peace, prosperity and progress.
Friedrich Ebert Stiftung
The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) maintains its own representations in 70 countries of Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. 70 German staff are posted in these countries at present and – with the assistance of numerous local staff – are engaged in projects in the fields of socio-political development and economic and social promotion. The FES spends approximately half of its annual budget on international activities. Its partners come from politics, business, associations, trade unions, academia, and also from the communication sector and cultural institutions. The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung sees its activities in the developing countries as a contribution to:
– promoting peace and understanding between peoples and inside its partner countries,
– supporting the democratisation of the State and society and strengthening civil society,
– improving general political, economic and social conditions,
– reinforcing free trade unions,
– developing independent media structures,
– facilitating regional and worldwide cooperation between states and different interest groups and
– gaining recognition for human rights
Internal organization
For the full development of the Congress it has been proposed that the modes of organization will seek to group the general issues that allow for the exchange of experiences and the conformation of networks. For this it is contemplated to operate and integrative design with pre-Congress courses, oral presentations, posters presented in the “arena”, symposiums, testimonials, master conferences, video sessions and organizational sessions. Also, a wide cultural agenda is being generated that shall allow for the participation of workers, students and the general population, there will be visual arts exhibitions with the theme of the congress and other current women’s issues.
The organization of the V Congress is in charge of the General Secretariat jointly with the Local, National, Latin American and International committees, whom will be coordinated in the tasks of design, diffusion, works selection and logistics of the Congress, so as to insure the attendance and quality of the speakers and the works, and to achieve the integration of collaboration and support networks between the different regions and amongst the different social sectors. As for the internal organization of the Organizing Committee, it has been pointed out that there is a General Secretariat in charge of 5 coordinators (Thematic, Cultural, Administrative, Liaison and Logistics), which will be responsible for the different work areas and activities required for the organization of the Congress. Members of different academic, union and civil society institutions integrate the Congress Committees.

Selection Process
The participant selection and registry processes will be in charge of the Thematic and Liaison Coordinators. The selection process will be performed by the work groups, coordinated by the responsible coordinator of each of the seven thematic axes.
The Selection Committee is conformed by the General Thematic Committee and seven Axis Coordinators. The General Selection Committee is formed by r Ma. de los Angeles Garduño, Hilda Rodríguez and Dellanira Ruíz de Chávez. Each Thematic Axis Coordination includes one coordinator and a work team integrated by people who know about the subject. This team responds and agrees directly with the coordinator, who in her turn agrees with the Thematic General Committee.
|
Each summary will be judged by two inspectors, if there should be a discrepancy, the axis coordinator emits the final decision. The coordinator for each axis will propose the distribution of the participations accepted in the work sessions.
The fundamental objective of this organization by axes is to give continuity to what has been proposed in prior Congresses about the need to generate knowledge and sustain actions that will modify the living and work conditions of women. |
